Hey all:
I am hoping to teach an introduction to disability studies class for a college scholastic program that I am joining and although I do have my own ideas about what topics  I’d like to include, I was wondering if anyone out there would be willing to share course syllabi that they have created, just to give me a template that I could work off of while incorporating my own ideas.
Best,
Meghan Schrader

Hi Megan and Cassandra

I'm also developing a Disability Studies class at the University of
Arizona, though this is at a 400/500-level and will be called "Disability
and Society".  I'm a very recently minted (12/2020)
Disability Anthropologist, but I'm aiming this class towards advanced
students and grad students in the medical social sciences.  I would love to
share syllabi if either of you are willing!

Hi all,

Here is the syllabus for "Disability in American Lit," and I will send along the syllabus for "Intro to Disability Studies in the Humanities" soon as well.

A few things I have done to teach during the pandemic: I did not make attendance mandatory, and in fact never took it. I also made assignment and paper deadlines suggested but completely optional and did not penalize for late submissions. I also gave students as many extensions and accommodations as they needed, even if my students were or weren't officially registered with the Student Disability Services Office at our university. I also did daily check-ins with students to see how they were doing, and started a group chat for our class on the GroupMe app. Since this class was the first class I have taught on my own, along with teaching during a pandemic, and not one but two (!) endometriosis surgeries that semester, I believe that these methods helped me as much as it helped them. (I know that sounds corny!)

I am still new to college teaching, so I still have many more things to learn, but I hope this will be helpful.

Best,

Maria

Hi all, Here is the syllabus for "Disability in American Lit," and I will send along the syllabus for "Intro to Disability Studies in the Humanities" soon as well. (I know that sounds corny!) I am still new to college teaching, so I still have many more things to learn, but I hope this will be helpful. Does an “Embodiment, Disability, and Gender” (420 at a School of Cinematic Arts) help? If so, I can send you the syllabus and PDFs.

All,

I would be interested in any syllabi you have to share as well. I teaching the History of Disability in the US and a Disability and Society course – both undergrad and both writing intensive. I am happy to share with you if you are interested.

Hi Meghan and Cassandra,

I am a PhD candidate teaching DS at Penn State Harrisburg. I have taught “Disability in American Literature” during the pandemic, and will be teaching “Introduction to Disability Studies in the Humanities” this fall. Please let me know if you’d like either of these syllabi.

Best,

Where do you teach?

Warmly,

Best,
