Caution! This message was sent from outside the University of Manitoba.

We have the pleasure of inviting you to the two-day conference called Inclusion of Children with Disabilities – Challenges & Possibilities 2024 in Arusha, Tanzania.

For those of you who are not familiar with the NOREC project already, it should be mentioned that this is a NOREC funded project, based on mutual exchange of staff and students. The aim of the project is to contribute to improved life quality of children with disabilities in Norway and Tanzania, through implementation of the UN conventions on, respectively, the Rights of the Child (CRC) and Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The four project partner organisations are Patandi Teachers College of Special Needs Education, The Open University of Tanzania, Western Norway University of Applied Science and the coordinating partner Molde University College. This small-scale conference will take place at St. Carolus, Tengeru, Arusha in Tanzania on August 13. and 14. this year. https://www.st-carolus.com/en/

The pre-conference on August 13 is a research conference reserved for presentations of research papers relevant to the conference topic. The preliminary plan for the main content of August 14 includes keynote speeches from particularly prominent and relevant stakeholders, UNICEF, and representatives from relevant government ministries. This will be followed by workshops in mixed groups focusing on children with disabilities, presentation of workshop results, and discussions. A detailed conference program will be announced later.

Abstracts: Researchers and research scholars are invited to submit abstracts for paper presentations at the preconference on August 13. Abstracts related to the conference topic, "Inclusion of children with disabilities – challenges and possibilities 2024," are encouraged, whether they are empirical, theoretical, or methodological. Further thematic suggestions for papers include the Tanzanian/African situation/contexts, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), children's needs, parents of children with disabilities, education, social work, health services, social education (vernepleie), methods in practical work with children with disabilities, etc. Abstracts should be a maximum of 1200 characters. The presentation of research at the conference will require individuals to be physically present. However, it will also be possible to submit research contributions in the form of selfexplanatory posters. Posters that are accepted will be displayed in the conference hall.

Abstract submission deadline: April 31. 2024 Conference fee, accommodation, and travel: Participation in the conference, which includes tea and lunch, is free of charge, but accommodation and travel expenses are not included. All participants are asked to register through this link: https://nettskjema.no/a/410340 For those of you who have not been to Arusha before, you should know that this is also a very good starting point for wildlife safaris in beautiful Tanzania. Many tourists therefore come to Arusha all year, so it may be a good idea to book accommodation early. There are many hotels in the area and many tourist companies are offering guided safari tours, but if you want some recommendations on accommodation and/or safaris, do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards,

Ezekiel Oweya FOR
