Hi Nancy

I hope you're doing well.  I know you've probably seen this call through the DSG list, but though I would reach out to you directly in case you know of any students in the disability studies program who might be good candidates for this student prize.  It's a nice line on a CV for an emerging scholar.

Best wishes,

Rob

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

2024 Todd Reynolds Student Paper Competition

Sponsored by the Disability Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers

Submission Deadline: March 15th 2024

Description
Students researching topics related to the geographies of disability are invited and encouraged to submit to the 2024 Todd Reynolds Student Paper Competition. This award recognizes outstanding emergent scholarship in disability geography and fosters student participation in the specialty group. The winner of the award will receive a certificate, a cash prize of $150, and a one year DSG membership. This award honors Todd Reynolds, Ph.D. (1971 - 2008), a scholar with disabilities who pursued important research in human behavior and hazards geography. The award is sponsored by the Disability Specialty Group (DSG) of the American Association of Geographers (AAG).

Eligibility
Submission themes may engage with any and all aspects of disability, including but not limited to: chronic illness, aging, and caregiving, as well as alternate interpretations and experiences of differently-abled or marginalized bodies encountering the same stigma as 'disabled'. The competition is open to undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level students, regardless of current membership in the DSG or AAG.

Entries eligible for consideration include papers prepared for publication, conference presentations, papers written as part of graduate or senior undergraduate courses, as well as research proposals, although research papers will receive more weight than research proposals. Ineligible submissions include papers that have been previously considered for the prize and papers formally published prior to the submission deadline.

Requirements
Submissions must establish an explicit link to disability geography. Entries should not exceed 30 double-spaced pages (including all notes, references, tables, and figures), and should have one-inch margins and 12-point font. Each student may submit only one paper or proposal. The student should be the lead contributor if a work is co-authored.

All entries should be fronted by a cover page that contains the following:
• Title of the paper or proposal and a brief abstract (no more than 250 words)
• Author and any co-authors' names
• Academic affiliation
• Mailing address
• E-mail address
• Phone number

All submissions should be accompanied by a short email certifying that the submission: 1) is authored by the student and 2) has not been previously published.

DEADLINE
All entries must be received by March 15th 2024. Submissions must be emailed to Rhonda Solomon (rhonda.solomon@alum.utoronto.camailto:rhonda.solomon@alum.utoronto.ca). Anyone with questions regarding participation in the competition are also advised to contact Rhonda Solomon.

Award notification
Papers will be evaluated by a selection of members of the Disability Specialty Group committee. All entrants will receive short feedback from the judging panel. The award recipient will be notified by April 5th 2024 and the announcement of the prize winner will be made at the Disability Specialty Group virtual Annual Business Meeting. The award certificate and check will be mailed to the winner shortly after the AAG conference. Winner announcements will be posted on the Disability Specialty Group page on the AAG website and the community listserv.
