Posting Summary

The Department of Urban Education at Rutgers University-Newark is seeking
an Associate Professor of Critical Disability Studies in Education. The
Department of Urban Education is committed to equity that is grounded in
valuing a racially, socioeconomically, and linguistically diverse society,
and we are looking for a like-minded, justice-oriented faculty member.
Specifically, we seek a faculty member that can teach inclusive special
education courses in a "generalist" program but can also work to develop
and execute a Critical Disabilities Studies minor for the department, among
other programmatic offerings that attend to the racialization of ability
and dis/ability, among other intersections.  The faculty member needs
experience teaching inclusive special education and disability studies
undergraduate and graduate courses through the lens of DisCrit, LQBTQ+
studies, critical race, and critical whiteness. Moreover, this person
should have extensive experience doing field observations for preservice
teachers, developing and sustaining partnerships with urban schools,
qualitative research methods, and a robust scholarly agenda that is focused
on intersectional experiences of disability in K-16 settings.  Since
Rutgers University-Newark is an anchor institution for the city, we seek a
faculty member that has experience building longstanding partnerships with
urban high schools and has a demonstrated commitment to publicly engaged
scholarship. This person should have a record of external grant awards and
want to actively seek funding in order to build and strengthen the
department's urban school partnerships.  A Ph.D. in Education or other
related discipline required.  Anticipated start date is January 1, 2022 or
September 1, 2022.
