welcomed Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P., S.T.L., Ph.D.

Building upon recent success, Fr. Shanley joined the University at a time
when it is well-positioned to play a role in the critical social movements
emerging across society, and at a time of tremendous institutional
momentum.

St. John’s is a Catholic and Vincentian university and is one of the top
40 universities in the nation for social mobility, according to U.S.
News & World Report
. Located in the Queens borough of New York City, St.
John's offers a traditional university environment in one of the world’s
most dynamic cities. St. John's College is the largest and oldest division
at St. John's University, offering undergraduates 32 majors and 40 minors.
The Graduate Division of St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
offers master’s and doctoral degrees in 32 fields. St. John's College also
offers dual-degree programs in business, law, and education; combined
undergraduate and graduate programs; and certificate programs in
multidisciplinary fields.

As a senior academic leader, the next Dean of St. John’s College will
serve as an effective advocate for the College within the University and
will act as the College’s chief executive and intellectual leader. They
will build upon St. John's College's rich history to articulate and advance
a compelling and innovative vision for the College’s future that centers on
the following: recruiting, developing, and retaining diverse and
exceptional faculty, administrators, and staff; strengthening faculty and
student focus on research; and advancing the University’s antiracism

develop a culture of inclusion and belonging.

The ideal candidate for this role will have demonstrated success as a
leader, teacher, and scholar who has developed and executed academic
strategies at a complex, comprehensive university. This individual will
have earned a terminal degree in a discipline within St. John’s College and
possess a record of scholarly achievement commensurate with appointment at
the rank of Professor.
