Asia-Pacific Commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities

8 December 2022, 13:00-15:30 (GMT+7)

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Asia-Pacific Commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, co-organized by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Australian Embassy, World Food Programme (WFP) and Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disabilities (APCD). The Commemoration will be conducted in hybrid mode from the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok and via Zoom on Thursday, 8 December 2022, 13:00-15:30 (Bangkok Time Zone: GMT+7).

The Commemoration will build on the momentum of the High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Final Review of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2013–2022 and feature a panel discussion on implementing the Jakarta Declaration on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2023–2032. The publication “A Three-Decade Journey towards Inclusion: Assessing the State of Disability-Inclusive Development in Asia and the Pacific” will also be launched during the Commemoration.

The second section of the Commemoration will include screening of winners from the Focus on Ability short film festival, hosted by the Australian Embassy. The Focus on Ability short film festival is a yearly festival, created by NOVA Employment, featuring short films on the theme of abilities or staring an actor with disabilities. The films highlight persons with disabilities as rights holders.

The Commemoration will provide an opportunity for organizations and governments from throughout the Asia-Pacific region to come together, celebrate achievements towards inclusion and share good practices. In line with the global theme for this year’s commemoration, the conversations will include discussions on how transformative solutions and innovations can drive forward disability-inclusive development.
