with light swirls. There are three black triangle designs with outlines of
different types of bodies in various colors, including a green
wheelchair-user, an orange cane user, a blue figure with a leg prosthetic,
and others. The title Disabled I AM with the hashtag #DISABLEDIAM are
located around the triangles. At the bottom of the flyer are logos for the
event sponsors and partners. There is a description of the second phase of
Disabled I AM, which is an interactive Storymap that includes portraits and
personal descriptions of disabled people so others (including aldermen) can
click and read stories of people with disabilities in each Chicago Ward.
The goal is to bring aldermen and other community members' attention to the
disability population and issues in their ward, while also spreading
disability awareness and pride. The is a link to sign up for the Storymap

Welcome to Part II of #DisabledIAM; we’re back and cooking up something
great!

For this edition of Disabled I AM, we are creating a Chicago story map
where people can click on each Chicago ward and read narratives of Chicago
disabled people. The story map will illustrate the need to weave disability
pride, disability acceptance, equitable accessibility and inclusion into
each ward. It will also help connect people with disabilities with
stakeholders, aldermen, and other community members within each ward.

If you are from the City of Chicago, identify with having a disability, and
want to share your story while being a part of the story map, sign up at

We will reveal the story map on Wednesday, April 19 at the Unveiling the
Disabled I AM Story Map event, and online on Disabled I AM, Disability
Culture Activism Lab, and Access Living’s social media accounts.

Unveiling Party of DISABLED I AM’s Story Map project

that people with disabilities face in their wards.

We hope to see you there!

What is DISABLED I AM?
DISABLED I AM is a multimedia campaign movement to empower people to own
their disability identity. People who identify as having a disability can
use #DisabledIAM to tell their story about their disability pride and their
viewpoints on what disability means to them. The end-goal of Disabled I AM
is to illustrate a spectrum of disability pride from various intersections
and backgrounds, such as race, gender, sex, class, location, religion, etc.

This project is led by Brittany King and Timotheus “T.J.” Gordon, Jr. of
Advance Your Leadership Power (AYLP), with mentorship by AYLP lead
organizer and Access Living racial justice community organizer Candace
Coleman. AYLP is a racial/disability justice group housed in Access Living.

Creative art making stations will be presented by Yunkung Lee, Anna Seo,
Brooke Willour, graduate art therapy students in the Community Practice and
Helping Relationship Class, department of art therapy and counseling,
School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).
