Hi Nancy,

Thank you again for taking the time to meet me on Monday. It was great to connect, and I truly hope we will have the chance to work together in the future.

As promised, I am following up put down in writing what we discussed so that you can easily share this your network. Let’s start with the new Disability Studies Programme. This is a brand new initiative at Palgrave Macmillan which aims to increase the number of books we publish in the field of Neurodiversity and Disability Studies across the Social Sciences. I am planning to stay away from more traditional topics (e.g., special education), to focus instead on pressing and current issues, like disability and health inequalities, climate change, disabled migrants and refugees, disaster/risk studies and disability, epistemic injustice, and similar. The vision is to make this programme truly inclusive and international, giving voice to scholars from the Global North as well as the Global South and Indigenous communities.

I am interested in developing book projects in the following formats:

The first step to get involved is to fill a proposal form (the attached form is valid for both Pivots and monographs/edited collections) and return it to me. After an initial assessment, the proposal will be then sent out for a round of blind peer review.

I also wanted to mention that Palgrave/Springer Nature are committed to become the lead publisher to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals through a series programme that connects the researchers who are tackling the world’s toughest challenges with the practitioners in policy and business who need those insights to achieve their goals in improving the world. (More info here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme). The new Disability Studies programme will fit in the SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities goal, where we already offer an interdisciplinary cluster on disability (see here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability#c23691790), offering a wonderful opportunity to make a tangible impact in the field.

Let’s stay in touch! And feel welcome to share my contact details with your network: I am always looking forward to hearing from scholars in the field to identify potential gaps in the market, resources that are needed, or key topics that would benefit from more attention.

Best wishes,

Clelia

Dear Professor Hansen,

I hope this email finds you all well. Please allow me to introduce myself as the Editor for Neurodiversity at Palgrave Macmillan (sister company of Springer Nature Publishing Group)..

One of my key focus at the moment is to develop a new book programme in Disability Studies across the Social Sciences, and as I familiarise myself with the existing publications, conferences and university programmes in the field, your profile really caught my eye. Would you be interested to meet in the next weeks or so to talk about your role as Director of the Interdisciplinary Master’s Program Disability Studies at the University of Manitoba, and perhaps discuss possible book ideas to contribute to the development of this new list? I would love to hear your thoughts on potential gaps in the market, resources that are needed, key topics that should be covered, to ensure this programme is truly inclusive and international.

The new Disability Studies programme will fit in the SDG 10 – Reducing Inequalities goal, where we already offer an interdisciplinary cluster (see here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability#c23691790), offering a wonderful opportunity to make a tangible impact in the field.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Clelia

I am interested in developing book projects in the following formats: * Pivots: Our short book format<https://www.palgrave.com/gp/palgrave-pivot>, for research output between 25,000 and 50,000 words. Pivots can be authored or edited, and are usually available on the market 12 weeks after manuscript acceptance. You can take a look at these Pivots published in Open Access to familiarise with this unique format: Autistic Community and the Neurodiversity Movement<https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-13-8437-0> (edited by S. Kapp, 2020), and Disability, Health, and Human Development<https://link.springer.com/book/10.1057/978-1-137-53638-9> (by S. Mitra, 2018) * Monographs/Edited Collections: For research output of between 70,000 and 130,000 words; can either be edited collections, authored or dual/multi authored works. See examples here<https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-82587-4> and here<https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-28607-1>. Edited Collections consist of around 10-15 chapters of approximately 5,000-8,000 words each (single or multi-authored), arranged thematically in a coherent structure which presents an overarching argument that is brought together, highlighted and developed by the book’s Editor/s in the Introduction and Conclusion. * Handbooks: Palgrave Handbooks<https://www.palgrave.com/gp/palgrave-handbooks> are prestigious, original reference works that provide an up-to-date survey of the state of a discipline, including essays on the most important concepts, empirical research and emerging and cutting edge areas. Chapters are commissioned specially, and we look for innovative work that, as a whole, will provide international coverage of the subject. They are a minimum of 25 chapters (of 6,000-8,000 words) in length, and are ideally between 200,000 and 300,000 words long. Handbooks serve as key reference works for years to come and a valuable resource for students, researchers and practitioners alike. Some recent handbooks include our The Palgrave Handbook of Disability and Communication<https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-14447-9> and The Palgrave Handbook of Positive Education<https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-64537-3> (published in Open Access). * Textbooks: The length varies to suit different course types but we have a helpful guide with examples online here<https://www.palgrave.com/gp/campaigns/palgrave-textbooks>. The first step to get involved is to fill a proposal form (the attached form is valid for both Pivots and monographs/edited collections) and return it to me. Dear Professor Hansen, I hope this email finds you all well. Further to Nancy's share, Palgrave Macmillan is also home of the Literary Disability Studies book series, proudly co-edited by David Bolt, Elizabeth Donaldson, and me. We've got a lovely little roster of books published and forthcoming.

Literary Disability Studies is the first book series dedicated to the exploration of literature and literary topics from a disability studies perspective. ...

Although I'm sorry that these volumes are expensive, typically beyond the means of individuals, I think that Palgrave is broadly supportive of disability scholarship and publication and I'm proud and happy to play a part in making this work available to libraries and in digital formats.

If you've got a project that fits, I encourage you to submit a proposal!

Take care,
Julia

(More info here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programmehttps://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme__;!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjnQlO5Oq$). The new Disability Studies programme will fit in the SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities goal, where we already offer an interdisciplinary cluster on disability (see here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability#c23691790https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability*c23691790__;Iw!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjuYmDI51$), offering a wonderful opportunity to make a tangible impact in the field.

Let’s stay in touch! And feel welcome to share my contact details with your network: I am always looking forward to hearing from scholars in the field to identify potential gaps in the market, resources that are needed, or key topics that would benefit from more attention.

Best wishes,

Clelia

Subject: New Programme in Disability Studies at Palgrave Macmillan

Caution: This message was sent from outside the University of Manitoba.

(More info here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programmehttps://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme__;!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjnQlO5Oq$). The new Disability Studies programme will fit in the SDG 10 – Reducing Inequalities goal, where we already offer an interdisciplinary cluster (see here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability#c23691790https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability*c23691790__;Iw!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjuYmDI51$), offering a wonderful opportunity to make a tangible impact in the field.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Clelia

Further to Nancy's share, Palgrave Macmillan is also home of the Literary Disability Studies book series, proudly co-edited by David Bolt, Elizabeth Donaldson, and me. Hi Nancy, Thank you again for taking the time to meet me on Monday. I am interested in developing book projects in the following formats: * Pivots: Our short book format<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.palgrave.com/gp/palgrave-pivot__;!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjpWbCIQk$>, for research output between 25,000 and 50,000 words. Pivots can be authored or edited, and are usually available on the market 12 weeks after manuscript acceptance. You can take a look at these Pivots published in Open Access to familiarise with this unique format: Autistic Community and the Neurodiversity Movement<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-13-8437-0__;!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjvnvTk90$> (edited by S. Mitra, 2018) * Monographs/Edited Collections: For research output of between 70,000 and 130,000 words; can either be edited collections, authored or dual/multi authored works. See examples here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-82587-4__;!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjkPxzvRS$> and here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-28607-1__;!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjtQV1aHs$>. * Handbooks: Palgrave Handbooks<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.palgrave.com/gp/palgrave-handbooks__;!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjue_ybEE$> are prestigious, original reference works that provide an up-to-date survey of the state of a discipline, including essays on the most important concepts, empirical research and emerging and cutting edge areas. Dear Professor Hansen, I hope this email finds you all well. The new Disability Studies programme will fit in the SDG 10 – Reducing Inequalities goal, where we already offer an interdisciplinary cluster (see here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability#c23691790<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/sdg-programme/sdg10/disability*c23691790__;Iw!!MbRwrtk074Fcag!1tuYd3d0h6vjYAJ5zXj5eWT81Zx4hlu9OWNlamhBsswC_mJ6M8V3TgYa4UueUZfa09h2RFQYo4FbgyU1Y8aTsSWfzCTdjuYmDI51$>), offering a wonderful opportunity to make a tangible impact in the field. I look forward to hearing from you.
