Subject: TT hire in Feminist/Queer/Trans* Dis/Ability Studies

Dear Colleagues,

I’m pleased to announce that the Women's, Gender & Queer Studies (WGQS)
Department in the College of Liberal Arts at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, is
looking to hire an Assistant Professor in Feminist/Queer/Trans* Dis/Ability
Studies.

Some additional details are as follows:

The WGQS Department at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly)
in San Luis Obispo, CA seeks applications for a full-time (academic year),
tenure-track assistant professor with a specialization in feminist, queer,
and/or trans* dis/ability studies, with a particular focus on critical
approaches that emphasize dis/ability as a social situation and a political
process; consider dis/ability in the context of settler colonialism,
cisheteropatriarchy, and racial capitalism; and center the knowledges and
experiences of people with dis/abilities, studying cultural and artistic
productions, social, cultural, and/or political theories, public laws and
policies, professional practices, and/or everyday life.

Applicants must have graduate training in Women’s, Gender & Queer Studies
and/or Dis/Ability Studies, which can come from a range of disciplinary
homes, and should approach scholarship and teaching from interdisciplinary
perspectives. Candidates must demonstrate: 1) an ongoing commitment to
scholarly inquiry, education, and activism in critical feminist, queer,
and/or trans* studies that utilizes an integrative approach, exploring the
intersections of gender, sexuality, dis/abilities, race, ethnicity,
socioeconomic class, religion, citizenship status, and other social
categories within local, regional, national, and transnational networks and
contexts; 2) the ability to collaborate with students/faculty/staff both
from within the College of Liberal Arts and across the university; and 3) a
record of and commitment to working to ensure an equitable and inclusive
campus for all. The successful candidate must also have the ability to work
effectively with students, staff, and faculty from a diversity of racial,
ethnic, socioeconomic, and other cultural backgrounds.

A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Women’s, Gender & Queer Studies,
Dis/Ability Studies, or a closely related field with graduate training in
WGQS and Dis/Ability Studies, and with an area of specialization in
feminist, queer, and/or trans* dis/ability studies, is required and must be
conferred by the time of appointment.
