Subject: disability studies disability history programs
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
I'm looking for information on the number of disability studies/disability history programs available at US/Canadian colleges and universities. The figures I'm able to find are quite a few years old, and I'm hoping for something more recent, say in the last two or three years. The figure would include majors, minors, and or certificates in disability studies and or disability history.
Any leads on this, including others not included on this email who might know, would be very much appreciated.
Thank you all and best wishes,
Fred Pelka

I just wanted to share some information regarding lists of disability studies programs. When Rachael Zubal-Ruggieri worked at Syracuse University's Center on Human Policy, she used to maintain a list of these programs. Unfortunately, the center has now closed, but I'm copying Rachael on this email so she can share any updates she might have on the list. I'm particularly interested in this topic because we want to identify colleges that have disability studies programs in the NCCSD's CEDAR Database for prospective students with disabilities (you can check out the database at www.CEDARdatabase.orghttp://www.CEDARdatabase.org). If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out!
Best regards,
Wendy

I acknowledge, with respect, that I live and work on traditional, ancestral, and contempory lands of Indigenous people including the Anishinaabe, Chippewa, Ojibwe, Dakota (including the Mdewakanton Sioux), Northern Cheyenne, and the Waccamaw Siouan Tribe. I affirm tribal sovereignty and will work to hold myself, my workplaces, and my affiliations accountable to American Indian peoples and Nations.
Hi Fred, Devva, and everyone!
I have a list of disability studies programs available here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18k0YukA2X8aRI07xygKXfL4JZCdBk2zI0LGOTPmY42o/edit?usp=sharing
This was last updated in the spring of 2022. It does not have specifics on
which programs are "disability history" but it does mark programs as either
"critical," "applied," or a "mix" of both. "Applied" meant programs that
call themselves disability studies but which are essentially in a medical
model, rehabilitative framework. "Critical" meant the program was more of a
"critical disability studies," anti medical model approach. "Mixed" meant
there were at least some humanities requirements in the coursework.
I agree this is important work and should be kept up to date and publicly
available! Once I finish my monograph, I think I'd be interested in
collaborating on a project like this, but I hope my spreadsheet helps in
the meantime. Let me know if you have issues accessing the Google sheet.
