ABSTRACT DEADLINE EXTENDED TO NOV 1st, 2023

Research in Social Science and Disability Volume 16

Disability and the Future of Work(ers)

Editors: Fitore Hyseni, Lisa Schur, Doug Kruse, and Peter Blanck

Call for book chapters: Abstracts due October 15 EXTENDED TO NOV 1, 2023

Call for book chapters on the future of work for workers with disabilities, exploring challenges and possibilities in the changing workplace and employment landscape. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted long standing uncertainties and disparities, with low employment rates, precarious jobs, and limited protections for people with disabilities. Recent changes in the workplace, such as remote / alternative work assignments and emerging technologies, have shown promise to benefit and/or harm workers with disabilities. Changing employment policies may exacerbate inequality and/or enhance worker's bargaining power, promoting more inclusive employment and employer policies. We invite theoretical, methodological, and empirical papers using social scientific approaches to examine trends, challenges and opportunities in the workplace and employment landscape.

Possible topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • The impact of emerging, assistive and automated technologies on the workplace and employment outcomes of people with disabilities
  • Impact of employment and other policies in changing work practices and increasing or decreasing employment disparities
  • Intersectional analyses of the impact of employment trends and outcomes
  • Labor organizing strategies of people with disabilities post-COVID-19
  • Employment outcomes of people with disabilities engaged in contingent, precarious, or gig work
  • Remote and alternative work arrangements and implications for workers with disabilities
  • COVID-19 and the health, success, and inclusion of workers with disabilities
  • Strategies to increase disability inclusion and representation

Abstracts should be 500-1000 words and submitted as Word documents or PDFs. Abstracts should be organized in the following sections: Purpose, Approach, Findings (anticipated findings are sufficient at this stage), and Implications. All papers should adhere to the stylistic requirements of Emerald Publishing: http://www.emeraldgrouppublishing.com/products/ebooks/author_guidelihttps://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fwww.emeraldgrouppublishing.com%2fproducts%2febooks%2fauthor_guideli&c=E,1,4YHvmOYicSbRo_bnCFQe_PoSVYbwXyYK9PU9d6Is0uow-wyWEv7YOjYvtzHKiz_qZa1cyGcai6j-tQX6-vZmqqm7Dhb29pqp2zLlQL1xjMuMPrxGPira&typo=1 nes.htm The deadline for abstract submissions is November 1st 2023, and for complete chapter submission 15 April 2024.
