Dear Colleagues,

The Disability Studies program at the University of Wyoming is currently looking for a part-time instructor to teach two required courses in the undergraduate minor in a distance / asynchronous format. We are seeking someone who would be able to teach at least one course a semester, and potentially three courses a year (most likely in summer). This part-time instructing position will begin in fall 2024.

The courses are part of the required curriculum, and include:

Introduction to Disability Studies (2000 or lower-level introductory course)
Course Description: This course provides students with an overview of the disability studies field. Students gain introductory knowledge about disability as a social, cultural, historical and political phenomenon. Drawing from interdisciplinary scholarship and multiple perspectives of disabled people, students are exposed to varying disability definitions, cultural meanings and representations, social justice and human rights issues, and current political debates related to disability.

Disability Studies Theory & Practice: (4000 or upper-level research course)

Course Description: This course explores the interdisciplinary nature of disability studies research, from theory to practice. Disability studies investigates the embodied experience of disability as well as the culturally constructed meanings and belief systems that function to limit, stigmatize, oppress, liberate, or otherwise impact people living with illness and disability. Students will consider research questions from a variety of disciplines such as history, bioethics, education, social work, and psychology, with attention to social and relational impacts.  Drawing upon individual fields of study, students will develop interdisciplinary research questions, and investigate these in-depth through group access projects and final research papers.

Required qualifications: MA / MS in Disability Studies or related discipline, including education, social sciences, history, policy, public health, or humanities-based fields. International candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in Disability Studies or related discipline; college level teaching in disability studies with demonstrated experience teaching on Canvas or similar online platforms; strong knowledge of universal design for learning and inclusive pedagogical approaches.

If you are interested, please email your CV, a teaching statement, including a list of courses taught, to Michelle Jarman at mjarman@uwyo.edu.
