Dear Members and Friends of SDS, The Society for Disability Studies will be hosting a Zoom Vigil in memory of Dr. Mark Bookman on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 7-8 pm Eastern time/Friday, January 6, 2023, at 9-10 am Japan time. Dr. Bookman joined the Board of Directors of the Society for Disability Studies in September 2022 and quickly made a lasting impression through his dedication to the disability community. We are heartbroken by Mark's sudden and unexpected passing on December 16, 2022. This vigil is an opportunity to come together, share memories and photos of Mark, and be in community while grieving this enormous loss to the disability community. Accessible features will include CART captioning, ASL interpreting, audio description of any slides and photos shared, and reading and revoicing of chat messages. All attendees will be welcome to remain on video to support a communal environment, though mute will remain in use to prevent feedback loops.
